SINAI EXPEDITIONS PRE - DEPARTURE INFORMATION Vehicles: Unless otherwise stated, all our expeditions use powerful A/ C 4 wheel drive as follows: Hommer 12 Pax. Toyota Land Cruiser 10 Pax. Land Rover 05 Pax. This allows us to drive over more challenging and remote off - road terrain. At least one jeep on each outgoing convoy will have a shower pump for passengers. Expedition Leaders/ Drivers: Our drivers and leaders are well trained individuals and highly skilled out door men, or women, thoroughly familiar with Sinai and desert living. At times a local Bedouin guide will assist the expedition leader in exploring area never before visited. Camping: Official campsites are non existent into the heart of Sinai, in the coastal areas and in St. Catherine they do exist. However the facilities are still very primitive (i.e. dormitories for men and women together, or broken shower, or dirty toilets). Our heavy duty truck carrying all our camping equipment (tents, each tent for one couple to ensure privacy, toilets, light chairs, tables, etc.) always ahead of our groups to ensure camping is ready as soon as our group arrival to the camping areas. We choose the most suitable, clean and quite campsites. Occasionally we camp in friendly Bedouin encampments or villages, other times in the desert or on a beach under the stars. Security: Permit from police and government authorities including the program of the trip pre - issued. Also the expedition vehicles are guarded all times when expedition members are away. Trekking: We plan to take part in any optional trekking during the expedition, then you will need to bring a small rucksack to carry lunch, camera, sun oil, water, etc.. . If you do not wish to take part in a trek, you are welcome to remain with the vehicle and driver. What To Expect: At times it may be very hot and dusty (or cold in the winter), but these inconveniences are all part of an adventure in the desert. You must be prepared for rugged conditions, which are unavoidable. Be assured that our staff will always keep your welfare in mind and try to make your trip as comfortable as possible for you. On the other hand, you will make new friends see and experience new sights and places and your photographs and souvenirs will for many years help you to recall the memories of your adventure in the Sinai. Health & Hygiene: Our vehicles carry a medical kit for use in emergencies. We do recommend that you bring your own supply of antimalaria pills (if you take them), aspirins, insect repellent, sun cream and personal medication you might be taking. At least one of our staff with you is trained in first aid procedures. One of the problems of traveling in remote places is the worry of becoming ill. This risk can be minimized by taking sensible precautions. Your expedition leader will advise you in details about the standard of group and personal hygiene which we recommend. Such things are washing one's hands before preparing food takes on a greater important when on the road. Anyone who does become ill is taken to the nearest medical center where proper medical facilities are available, and in the Sinai this is generally not far way. However, when proper precautions are taken, serious illness is unlikely and we do our utmost to insure the healthiest environment possible. The provisions we make for clean drinking water and for washing foods afford us greater standards of hygiene than those usually available in the desert. All vehicles carry a stock of purification powder and adequate reserves of water. It is important that all water to be consumed (even for cleaning teeth) be purified. |
